Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus
(Phil 2:5)
Christ is the supreme example of a servant. He is humility personified. We are to have the same attitude as Hethe attitude of a servant.
Pauls challenge came from the life of Christ. The entire earthly life of Christ was the fulfillment of:
do not merely look out for your own personal interests,
but also for the interests of others. (Phil. 2:4)
What is it that hinders us from serving others? In a wordpride.
When pride fills our heart we cant really see God or anyone else. Pride makes us focus on what we can get and it blinds us to the needs of others. Focused on a personal agenda, we do not have time for anyone else.
What can change this kind of self-centered focus? We do not naturally want to serve others and theres nothing (humanly speaking) that can change the selfish focus of a heart. It only happens as God works in us.
Do you have Jesus living in your heart? As He lives His life in you, He will change your focus from yourself to others.
Have the same attitude that was in Christ Jesus? Yes. Turn from pride and turn toward Him. As you see Him more clearly, He will open your eyes to the needs of others.
If we serve Him, we will serve others
it is just that simple. He was a servant. If we walk with Him, we will be servants too.
